The Israeli Ministry of Defense recently made a major upgrade to the Iron Dome Missile Defense System in cooperation with an American company. Its goal is to target and destroy incoming missiles sent to civilian population centers. The Iron Dome has a near perfect record of knocking missiles out of the sky. Since 2001, 15,200 projectiles have been sent to Israel ranging from distances of 4km to 70km away. In addition, during Operation Protective Edge in 2014, it shot down 799 rockets aimed at civilian centers among the 4,594 rockets that were sent from Hamas in Gaza. Last month it intercepted three missiles sent from ISIS in the Sinai to Eilat. Other countries are seeking this defense system for their countries as well.
