Dear President Trump,
As loyal Americans who study the Bible, we recognize the unique spiritual importance of Jerusalem in the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament. Today, Jerusalem is home not only to our most cherished biblical sites, but it is also the center of Israel’s political life. The Knesset, the president’s residence, and most of the important government offices are located in Jerusalem. Jerusalem is the very soul of both ancient and modern Israel.
We urge you to keep your pledge to move our Embassy to an undivided Jerusalem, thereby setting an example for other countries to follow. You promised to make this move a reality during your campaign and although you have chosen to delay the fulfillment of this commitment for the present, we nonetheless remain encouraged that you say you remain determined, despite opposition, to bring this about. This is indeed our heartfelt prayer.
We affirm the recent statements by Dr. Jerry Johnson, CEO of the influential National Religious Broadcasters. Dr. Johnson stated,
The Jerusalem Embassy Act, which was enacted in October 1995, declared clearly that Jerusalem is the political capital of Israel…this law required that the embassy be moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem by May 31, 1999.
However, the statute includes an option for its mandate to be waived by the President for six months, if “necessary to protect the national security interests of the United States.” That option has been exercised by the White House every six months for two decades.
… nearly sixty other signers of the American Christian Leaders for Israel (ACLI) letter said, “It is time to end America’s doublespeak.”
We affirm the sentiments expressed by the NRB and ask you to move forward with your decision to relocate the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem.
We are grateful for your promise and are praying that you will indeed bring about this historic shift in U.S. policy. We believe that this decision and its implementation is not only in the interest of justice, but also in the interest of America. For as the Bible promises, those who bless the Jewish people shall themselves receive God’s blessing.
And I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.” (Genesis 12:3)
