To: President, Donald J. Trump
Attorney General, the Honorable Matthew G. Whitaker
As followers of Jesus, the Jewish Messiah, we are disturbed by the growing number of overt attacks against Jewish people: in Pittsburgh, on United States college campuses, and even in elementary schools. We simply cannot stand by and remain silent while Jewish people fear for their safety because of the continued rise of antisemitism.
The Christian community is very concerned about the ways in which Jewish people are being treated across the country, on today’s campuses, and through social media sites like Gab, where it is reported that Robert Bowers, the accused murderer of eleven Jewish people, wrote, “Jews are the children of Satan”.
We ask you to do everything possible to protect Jewish people and enable them to attend religious services, study at our schools and universities, and even just to walk across the street safely without intimidation. We believe everyone, regardless of their personal beliefs, should be free to focus on their everyday lives, rather than concerned for the daily safety of their families -.
We believe it is the obligation of our government to help create policies and laws whereby religious, academic and political debate is devoid of racism, prejudice, violence, and fear.
As concerned Christians and Messianic Jews and those who sympathize and identify with the Jewish community, we are asking you to exercise your influence to protect the Jewish people, Jewish institutions, and synagogues to a far greater extent than today. We ask that the identification of antisemitic rhetoric and behavior be swiftly addressed by teachers, school administrators, and law enforcement so that tragedies like what happened at the Tree of Life Synagogue will never happen again in America.
Thank you for your consideration.
